Greg Reisdorf, the creative director of multiplayer for Call of Duty, has announced his departure from Sledgehammer Games after an impressive 15-year tenure. Throughout his career, Reisdorf played a pivotal role in the development of all Call of Duty titles created by Sledgehammer Games, starting with the iconic Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, released in 2011.

Founded on July 21, 2009, in Foster City, California, Sledgehammer Games quickly made its mark in the gaming industry by launching its first Call of Duty title just two years later. The studio has collaborated with other renowned developers like Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Raven Software on several Call of Duty releases, including the latest 2024's Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and the immensely popular Call of Duty: Warzone.

On January 13, Reisdorf took to Twitter to confirm his departure from Sledgehammer Games, which occurred on January 10. In a detailed thread, he shared his journey and numerous achievements as a developer. Starting with Modern Warfare 3, Reisdorf's contributions included the memorable Scorched Earth campaign mission. One of his standout moments was the sequence in the Blood Brothers mission where Soap is on a gurney, which he described as "one of the most fun and chaotic moments" he worked on.

Reisdorf was instrumental in shaping the "boots off the ground" era with his work on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's gameplay systems, such as boost jumps, dodging, and tactical reloads. He also developed unique weapon signatures, energy weapons, and multiplayer maps. However, he expressed some reservations about the "Pick 13" system, believing that streaks should not impact the necessity of primary and secondary weapons.

Reflecting on Call of Duty: WW2, Reisdorf discussed the initial restrictive nature of the Divisions system, which locked weapons to specific classes. He was pleased with the swift reversal of this decision post-launch. His contributions to Call of Duty: Vanguard's multiplayer included the development of discovery and traditional three-lane maps, which he favored for their fun gameplay over military simulation.

In his final project, 2023's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Reisdorf relished the opportunity to revisit and enhance classic maps from Modern Warfare 2 (2009), such as adding Shepherd's skull to Rust. As the creative director of multiplayer, he was directly involved in creating Modern Warfare 3's live season modes, including Season 1's Snowfight and Infectious Holiday modes. Throughout the year, he worked on over 20 modes for Modern Warfare 3's post-launch support. Looking ahead, Reisdorf hinted at continued involvement in the gaming industry, eager to explore new opportunities.
