The return of SVC Chaos marks a pivotal moment in the history of crossover fighting games, especially considering it's been over two decades since its initial release in 2003. The game's extended absence is attributable to several difficulties faced by SNK. In the early 2000s, SNK declared bankruptcy and was subsequently purchased by the Pachinko company Aruze. This transition, along with SNK's difficulties transitioning from arcade machines to home consoles, led to a prolonged hiatus for the series.

Despite these obstacles, the devoted fanbase of SVC Chaos remained steadfast. The game's unique blend of characters and rapid gameplay left a lasting impression on the fighting game community. The re-release serves as both a commemoration of its legacy and an acknowledgment of the enduring affection fans hold for the series. By making the game available on contemporary platforms, SNK has enabled a new generation of players to experience the classic confrontations between SNK and Capcom icons.

In an exclusive interview with Dexerto last Saturday, Shuhei Matsumoto, producer of Street Fighter 6 and the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, shed light on Capcom's ambitions for the future of crossover fighting games. Matsumoto expressed the development team's aspirations of potentially creating a new Marvel vs Capcom game or a new Capcom-based SNK game. However, he stressed that such projects would necessitate considerable time and effort to realize.

Matsumoto expounded on Capcom's immediate objectives, stating, What we can do now is at least reintroduce these past legacy games to a new audience, to people who may not have had the opportunity to play them on modern platforms. He highlighted the significance of familiarizing players with these classic series, paving the way for potential future developments.

Regarding the re-release of past Capcom-developed Marvel games, Matsumoto shared that the team had been in discussions with Marvel for years. The timing and alignment of interests finally enabled the revival of these games. Matsumoto noted that Marvel's awareness of community-driven tournaments, such as those at EVO, played a key role in reigniting interest in the series. The enthusiasm from both fans and developers has prepared the way for these classic games to shine again on modern platforms.
