Deadlock Update Schedule Shifting in 2025: Fewer, Larger Patches Planned
Valve has announced a change to its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, shifting from frequent, smaller updates to larger, less frequent patches. This decision, communicated via the official Deadlock Discord, aims to improve the development process and allow for more substantial content releases.
While 2024 saw a consistent stream of updates, Valve developer Yoshi explained that the two-week update cycle hindered internal iteration and prevented sufficient time for external adjustments before subsequent updates. This change will likely disappoint players accustomed to the rapid pace of updates, but promises larger, more impactful content drops in the future. These updates will feel more event-driven than the previous smaller hotfixes.
Deadlock, a free-to-play MOBA-style hero shooter, launched on Steam earlier in 2024 and has quickly gained traction despite competition from titles like Marvel Rivals. Its unique steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay have contributed to its success. The game currently boasts 22 playable characters, expandable to 30 with the addition of Hero Labs mode. Deadlock's innovative anti-cheat measures have also been praised.
The recent winter update offered a departure from the year's balance-focused patches, showcasing a potential trend towards limited-time events and special modes in future updates. Yoshi confirmed that major patches will no longer adhere to a fixed schedule, prioritizing quality and impact over frequency. Hotfixes will still be deployed as needed.
While an official release date remains unannounced, Valve plans to share more Deadlock news in 2025. The shift in update strategy suggests a focus on larger, more substantial content releases, potentially shaping Deadlock's future development.
