PlayStation Plus subscribers will get five extra days for free

Sony addressed the nearly day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, attributing the disruption to an unspecified "operational issue." The company offered no further explanation regarding the root cause or preventative measures.

To compensate affected users, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a five-day extension to their subscriptions, automatically applied to their accounts.

The outage significantly impacted gameplay, with over one-third of players unable to log in and widespread reports of server crashes.

Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games, has drawn criticism, and this outage further fuels concerns among players who oppose this policy.

This isn't the first major PSN downtime. The April 2011 data breach resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. While less severe, the recent incident has left PS5 users dissatisfied with Sony's limited communication regarding the issue.
