VNeID Application: Electronic Identification and Authentication
The VNeID application, developed by the National Population Data Center under Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security, utilizes population data for electronic identification and authentication purposes. This tool is designed for individuals residing in or visiting Vietnam.
Key Features and Benefits:
- Digital Replacement for Traditional Documents: VNeID serves as a digital substitute for conventional identification papers, facilitating the development of digital citizenship, government, and society.
- Health and Travel Declarations: It enables users to efficiently submit medical reports and domestic travel declarations.
- COVID-19 Management: The app assists authorities in tracking secondary infections of COVID-19 and promptly notifying the public.
Access Requirements: By using VNeID, users grant the application access to the following:
- Internet Access: The app requires an internet connection to function.
- Camera Access: To scan QR codes on Citizen ID Cards (CCCD) for quick entry of basic information and to facilitate travel and medical declarations.
- Media Access: The application needs access to photos, videos, audios, and files on the device to store QR code images for verification at checkpoints.
- Notifications: The app can send notifications to the user's device.
Personal Information Collection: Users input personal data, health information, and travel details either for themselves or on behalf of others with their consent. Collected information includes:
- Full name
- Phone number
- Citizen identification
- Gender
- Year of birth
- Permanent address
- Nationality
- Health status
- Travel details (departure place, destination, vehicle number plate)
- Exposure to individuals with COVID-19
All data is entered through forms and submitted with the user's permission. Users are responsible for the accuracy and legitimacy of the information they provide.
Privacy and Copyright Protection: The National Population Data Center, Ministry of Public Security, securely stores and uses user data solely for COVID-19 prevention and control. The data will not be used for commercial purposes or to invade personal privacy. Information may be shared with health authorities and other relevant entities to enhance disease prevention efforts.
The application does not collect or use user information for any purposes other than those mentioned and will not disclose any information that could harm users or violate privacy laws or the application's policies.
Additional Privacy Assurances:
- No Location Tracking: VNeID does not collect location data.
- Anonymity: Users interact within the community anonymously, with only competent authorities having access to information about those infected or suspected of infection due to close contact with a COVID-19 case.
