Rumor: Ubisoft Has Restarted Development of Project Maverick

Author : Lucy Mar 20,2025

A report from Insider Gaming reveals a major reboot for the Alaskan extraction shooter initially codenamed Project Maverick. Originally planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, internal reviews led Ubisoft to significantly alter its development. Despite positive internal testing, resource allocation shifted primarily to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7), ultimately halting the multiplayer component's development due to the technical team's reassignment.

Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio specializing in development support, now leads the project. Most of the original development team has transitioned to the next Far Cry installment.

According to insider Tom Henderson (mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 plunges players into a desperate struggle against time. The narrative centers on the protagonist's family, kidnapped by a mysterious cult conducting disturbing hallucinogen experiments on animals and children. Players face a 72 in-game hour (24 real-time hour) deadline to rescue their loved ones. This time constraint is a core gameplay element, injecting urgency and intensity.

A prominent feature is an in-game wristwatch timer, constantly highlighting the dwindling time. This mechanic intensifies the pressure, demanding strategic and rapid decision-making. Far Cry 7 promises a unique experience where every second and choice carries significant weight.
