Pokemon TCG Pocket: Paralyzed, Explained (& All Cards with ‘Paralyze’ Ability)

Author : Sebastian Jan 29,2025

This guide explores the Paralyze effect in Pokémon TCG Pocket, detailing its mechanics, counters, and potential deck strategies.

What is Paralyzed in Pokémon TCG Pocket?

Paralyzed Effect

The Paralyzed status condition immobilizes the opponent's Active Pokémon for a single turn, preventing attacks and retreats. It automatically resolves at the start of the opponent's next turn after the Checkup phase.

Paralyzed vs. Asleep

Both Paralyzed and Asleep prevent attacks and retreats. However, Paralyzed automatically resolves, while Asleep requires a coin flip or specific card effects for recovery.

Paralyzed in Pocket vs. Physical PTCG

Unlike the physical Pokémon TCG, where cards like Full Heal remove Paralysis, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently lacks direct counter cards. The core mechanic—inability to attack or retreat for one turn—remains consistent.

Pokémon with Paralyze

Currently, only Pincurchin, Elektross, and Articuno in the Genetic Apex expansion inflict Paralysis. Each relies on a coin flip, making it a chance-based effect rather than a guaranteed strategy.

Recovering from Paralyzed

Recovering from Paralyzed

Four methods exist to cure Paralysis:

  1. Time: The effect automatically ends at the start of your next turn.
  2. Evolution: Evolving the Paralyzed Pokémon removes the condition.
  3. Retreat: Retreating the Pokémon removes the effect (as Bench Pokémon cannot have Special Conditions).
  4. Support Cards: Currently, only Koga offers counter-Paralysis support, but only under specific conditions (Weezing or Muk).

Paralyze Deck Example

Paralysis alone is not a strong deck archetype. Combining it with Asleep, however, offers greater effectiveness. A synergistic strategy uses Articuno & Frosmoth, leveraging their attacks to inflict both conditions. This deck often incorporates Wigglytuff ex to further enhance the strategy.

Card Quantity
Wigglypuff ex 2
Jigglypuff 2
Snom 2
Frosmoth 2
