Final Fantasy XIV Halts Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires
Square Enix has temporarily suspended automatic housing demolition timers in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers.
The suspension, implemented on January 9th, comes just one day after the company resumed these timers following a previous pause related to Hurricane Helene's aftermath. The 45-day demolition timers, designed to free up housing plots from inactive players and Free Companies, are now frozen. However, players can still reset their individual timers by logging into their homes.
This action reflects Square Enix's sensitivity to the impact of real-world events on its players. The company will closely monitor the situation and provide an update on when the automatic demolition timers will resume. The indefinite nature of this pause contrasts with previous temporary suspensions, which had predetermined end dates.
The impact of the wildfires extends beyond the game, with other events, including a Critical Role campaign and an NFL playoff game, also affected. This unexpected pause adds another chapter to the eventful start of 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, who recently also benefited from a free login campaign.
The situation surrounding the LA wildfires is dynamic, and the duration of the housing demolition pause remains uncertain. Square Enix assures players that they will be informed as soon as a resumption date is determined.
