Elder Scrolls IV Remake Rumors Gaining Traction

Oblivion Remake Hints Emerge: Unreal Engine 5 and a Potential 2025 Reveal

Whispers of an Oblivion remake are growing louder, fueled by a developer's LinkedIn profile. The profile, belonging to a Technical Art Director at Virtuos, a studio rumored to be involved, boasts work on an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S." While the game isn't explicitly named, the context strongly suggests The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, especially given the engine specification, hinting at a full remake rather than a simple remaster.

Speculation surrounding an Oblivion remake has been swirling for years, with a 2023 rumor predicting a 2024 or 2025 release. Xbox insider Jez Corden further fueled the fire in late December 2024, suggesting a reveal during a January 2025 Xbox Developer Direct (though this event remains unconfirmed). The timing aligns with previous Developer Directs held in January 2023 and 2024.

This latest LinkedIn revelation adds significant weight to existing rumors and leaks. The use of Unreal Engine 5 aligns with expectations for a visually enhanced remake of the beloved 2006 title, which itself followed the critically acclaimed Morrowind (2002). The game's vast world, impressive graphics (for its time), and memorable soundtrack continue to resonate with players. This is further underscored by the ongoing Skyblivion project, a fan-made recreation of Oblivion within Skyrim's engine, recently hinting at a 2025 release.

Meanwhile, the future of the Elder Scrolls franchise remains somewhat shrouded in mystery. The Elder Scrolls VI, announced with a single trailer in 2018, is still in development. Bethesda has indicated it will follow Starfield, and director Todd Howard's estimations suggest a release window sometime between 15 and 17 years after Skyrim (2011). Fans are eagerly anticipating a new trailer for ESVI before the end of 2025. The potential Oblivion remake reveal could offer a welcome distraction, or perhaps even a precursor, to further Elder Scrolls VI news.
