Tongits is traditionally a three-player game using a standard 52-card deck. The goal is to minimize your hand's value by creating and playing melds (sets and runs). Victory is achieved by emptying your hand ("Tongits"), having the lowest hand value when the draw pile is depleted ("Draw"), or winning a challenge when another player calls "Draw."
Gameplay:
- Setup: Each player receives 12 cards, with the dealer getting 13. The remaining cards form the draw pile.
- Turns: Players take turns clockwise, drawing a card from either the draw or discard pile. They then check for melds (sets of three or four same-rank cards, or runs of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit) and can lay them down. The turn ends with a discard.
- Winning: Win by "Tongits" (emptying your hand), "Draw" (lowest hand value when the draw pile is exhausted), or winning a challenge ("Fight") when another player calls "Draw."
- Special Actions: "Burn" (cannot make a valid move, resulting in a round loss) and strategic challenging add layers of depth.
Scoring:
Points are earned by creating melds and tallied from unplayed cards at the end of each round. The overall winner is determined by accumulating points across rounds.
