Steam Deck Game Reviews & Impressions
NBA 2K25 Steam Deck Review
Despite the yearly release cycle skepticism, I remain a 2K NBA fan. NBA 2K25 stands out: it's the first PC version since the PS5 launch to mirror the "Next Gen" console experience, and it's officially optimized for Steam Deck (though not yet officially rated by Valve). My experience across Steam Deck, PS5, and Xbox Series X reveals a satisfying game, though with familiar 2K quirks.
Key improvements for PC players include ProPLAY technology (previously exclusive to PS5/Xbox Series X) and the PC debut of WNBA and MyNBA mode. If you've held off on recent PC versions, 2K25 delivers the complete package. Here's hoping its success ensures continued Next-Gen PC releases and dedicated Steam Deck optimization.
The PC and Steam Deck versions boast 16:10 and 800p support. AMD FSR 2, DLSS, and XeSS are included (though I disabled them – more on that later). V-sync options, a dynamic v-sync targeting 90fps/45fps, HDR (Steam Deck compatible!), texture detail, overall quality, and shader options are available. Initial shader caching is recommended for optimal gameplay; 2K25 performs a quick cache on each boot, a minor but noticeable detail.
Extensive graphics settings are present, including shader detail, shadows, player/crowd detail, NPC density, volumetric effects, reflections, era filters, global illumination, ambient occlusion, TAA, motion blur, depth of field, bloom, and anisotropy. I found a balance of medium/low settings, disabling upscaling for sharper visuals, and capping the framerate at 60fps for stability and clarity. The default Steam Deck preset was too blurry for my preference.
Offline play is partially supported. While some modes require online access (MyCAREER, MyTEAM), quick play and eras function offline, with noticeably faster load times.
While technically inferior to the console versions, the Steam Deck's portability makes it my preferred platform. Load times are slower than on PS5/Xbox Series X, but not excessively so. Note the lack of crossplay with consoles. Microtransactions remain a persistent issue, impacting certain modes. At $69.99, it's a premium price compared to previous years.
NBA 2K25 delivers a fantastic portable basketball experience, matching PS5/Xbox Series X features. With minor adjustments, it looks and plays great. 2K has finally brought the full experience to PC after years of waiting. Steam Deck owners seeking a quality NBA 2K experience will be satisfied, but be mindful of the microtransactions.
NBA 2K25 Steam Deck review score: 4/5
Gimmick! 2 Steam Deck Impressions
Unfamiliar with Gimmick! 2? Check out Shaun's Switch review here. On Steam Deck (unverified, but running smoothly), it even boasts Steam Deck and Linux fixes in its latest patch. Capped at 60fps, forcing the Steam Deck to 60hz (OLED users) avoids jitter. While lacking graphics options, it supports 16:10 menus (gameplay remains 16:9). A strong contender for Steam Deck Verified status.
The 60fps cap isn't a significant drawback. The game runs flawlessly, and I concur with Shaun's positive assessment.
Arco Steam Deck Mini Review
Arco, a dynamic turn-based RPG with pixel art and a compelling narrative, has received a major Steam update (not yet on Switch) addressing previous concerns. Steam Deck compatibility is excellent, running at 60fps with 16:9 support. An assist mode (beta) offers combat skipping, infinite dynamite, and first-act skipping for replays.
Beyond its tactical gameplay, Arco's audio and story are particularly noteworthy. The unique character stories and real-time elements within the turn-based combat create a dynamic experience. A free demo is available on Steam.
Arco exceeded expectations, offering superb visuals, music, and a memorable story. A must-have tactical RPG.
Arco Steam Deck review score: 5/5
Skull and Bones Steam Deck Mini Review
Recently added to Steam, Skull and Bones launched earlier this year on other platforms. Valve rates it as "Playable." Ubisoft Connect login is slightly cumbersome. For smoother performance, I used a 30fps cap, 16:10/800p resolution, FSR 2 quality upscaling, and low settings (high textures).
Early impressions are positive, showing potential with continued support. A free trial is recommended. It's an online-only experience.
Hard to recommend at full price, but the free trial is worth exploring for fans of naval combat and open-world Ubisoft games. Cross-progression is available on consoles.

ODDADA Steam Deck Review
ODDADA, a music-making experience, is a delightful interactive toy. The aesthetic is captivating, offering numerous creative tools. Touch controls on the Steam Deck work perfectly, running at 90fps with adjustable resolution, v-sync, and anti-aliasing. Menu text is small.
The lack of controller support is the only downside, though touch or mouse control is arguably preferable. Steam Deck verification is in progress.
Recommended for music and art enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a creative outlet.
ODDADA Steam Deck review score: 4.5/5
Star Trucker Steam Deck Mini Review
Star Trucker blends automobile simulation and space exploration. Unverified, but playable on Proton Experimental. The gameplay loop, visuals, writing, and radio banter are highlights. Extensive graphics settings are available (resolution, refresh rate, v-sync, quality, etc.). I achieved ~40fps with adjusted settings.
Controls require adjustment. A unique blend of genres, enjoyable despite its shortcomings. Further optimization is hoped for.
Star Trucker Steam Deck review score: 4/5
DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia Steam Deck Mini Review
A Western release of a 2020 PS4 Japanese title, DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia is a great sequel to Rio Reincarnation. It features multiple paths, returning characters, and excellent art. The lighthearted tone complements its predecessor.
Runs flawlessly on Steam Deck at 720p with 16:9 support. Check system settings for button configuration (A/B) and aspect ratio.
Highly recommended for fans of Rio Reincarnation. Play Rio Reincarnation first.
DATE A LIVE: Ren Dystopia Steam Deck Review Score: 4/5
Total War: PHARAOH DYNASTIES Steam Deck Review Impressions
A relaunched and significantly improved version of Total War: PHARAOH. Nearly double the content, four new factions, the Dynasty system, and numerous enhancements. Steam Deck support is playable, though lacks controller support (trackpad/touch controls are usable).
Early impressions are very positive, exceeding the original.
Pinball FX Steam Deck Impressions
A comprehensive pinball experience with extensive PC features and HDR support on Steam Deck. Many DLC tables are available. The free-to-play version allows sampling the game and its tables.
Highly recommended.
New Steam Deck Verified & Playable Games
Notable additions include Hookah Haze and OneShot: World Machine Edition (Verified). Black Myth: Wukong remains Unsupported (despite playable performance).

The Games from Croatia sale features discounts on Talos Principle and more. Sale ends Monday.
