Warner Bros. Shuts Down

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially closing October 21st, 2024.

The reasons behind the closure remain unannounced, though it follows NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division, which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice. This suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile gaming strategy.

The status of in-game purchases is unclear. While refunds for purchased currency and items haven't been confirmed, NetherRealm and Warner Bros. promise further information soon. Players are advised to monitor the official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.

Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series. Unlike its fighting game predecessors, it blended action-adventure combat with a cinematic storyline, reminiscent of free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game centered on Raiden and the player's team thwarting Shinnok's power grab.
