World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 introduces thrilling new races: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. and Skyrocket races. These replace traditional Skyriding races in the new Undermine zone.
Undermine, a vast subterranean Goblin city, prohibits flying. Instead, players navigate using the customizable D.R.I.V.E. vehicle, offering a unique high-speed ground-based racing experience surpassing even Skyriding in terms of velocity. Breakneck races fully utilize the D.R.I.V.E. system's capabilities.
Complementing the D.R.I.V.E. races are the innovative Skyrocket races. These utilize Goblin jetpacks for aerial maneuvering, offering a distinct blend of flight mechanics. Unlike Steady Flight, players cannot pause mid-air; however, unlike Skyriding, they maintain momentum and altitude. Ring collection boosts speed, but increased velocity reduces maneuverability, adding a strategic layer to the challenge. Footage from the Public Test Realm showcases this dynamic gameplay.
No Skyriding, But Plenty of Racing:
The absence of Skyriding in Undermine also eliminates Skyriding races. Both Breakneck and Skyrocket races offer Bronze, Silver, and Gold time achievements. Reverse versions of all races are included, though advanced or challenge courses are absent.
Race Lineup in Patch 11.1:
Skyrocket | Breakneck |
---|---|
Skyrocketing Sprint | Breakneck Bolt |
The Heaps Leap | Junkyard Jaunt |
Scrapshop Shot | Casino Cruise |
Rags to Riches Run | Sandy Scuttle |
Player reception to the Skyrocket races has been varied. While some anticipate them enthusiastically, others express concerns about the perceived stiffness and lack of responsiveness compared to Skyriding. As Patch 11.1 remains under development, refinements are expected before the February release.
