Lost Soul Aside's PC Release to Forgo PSN Account Linking
Lost Soul Aside, the highly anticipated Sony-published action RPG, will reportedly launch on PC in 2025 without the controversial PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking requirement. This significant change expands the game's potential market considerably, as PSN support is unavailable in over 100 countries.
Developed by UltiZeroGames, Lost Soul Aside is a product of PlayStation's China Hero Project. This Devil May Cry-inspired hack-and-slash title has been in development for nearly nine years. While Sony publishes the game for both PS5 and PC, the initial mandate for PSN account linking on PC versions of PlayStation games, implemented last year, faced significant player backlash.
The decision to omit PSN linking for Lost Soul Aside's PC version was seemingly confirmed after its Steam page went live. Initially, the page listed PSN account linking as a requirement, but this was swiftly removed the following day, as evidenced by SteamDB's update history.
This marks only the second instance of Sony reversing its PSN account linking policy for PC releases, the first being Helldivers 2. This suggests a potential shift in Sony's approach to PC game releases. The reasoning behind this change for Lost Soul Aside remains unclear, but maximizing player reach is a likely factor, especially considering the underperformance of other PlayStation PC titles since the PSN linking requirement was imposed. God of War Ragnarök, for example, saw significantly fewer Steam players than its predecessor.
This development is welcome news for PC gamers in regions lacking PSN support, and it raises intriguing questions about the future of PlayStation's PC gaming strategy. The success of Lost Soul Aside, free from the PSN linking constraint, will be a key indicator of Sony's future approach.
