Sony's Hit Game Helldivers 2 Headed to the Big Screen
Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are teaming up to bring the acclaimed video game Helldivers 2 to life in a film adaptation, announced at CES 2025. Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the exciting reveal, stating, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film based on our incredibly successful game, Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles on the silver screen.
Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2, a shooter reminiscent of Starship Troopers, has achieved phenomenal success. It became the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios title, surpassing 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. The recent Illuminate update, reintroducing enemies from the original Helldivers, further boosted its popularity.
This cinematic venture joins another PlayStation game adaptation in the works: Horizon Zero Dawn. PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures (the studio behind the 2022 Uncharted film) will collaborate on this project. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse, promising, "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic treatment."
