Splatoon 4 Anticipation Mounts as an Era Concludes
Nintendo has confirmed the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3, its acclaimed shooter. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned; holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges, weapon adjustments, and balance patches as needed.
The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."
This news follows the September 16th conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival, commemorated by a video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio. Nintendo's farewell message: "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!"Splatoon 3's two-year run, coupled with the cessation of major development, has fueled rumors of a Splatoon 4. Intriguingly, some players believe they've discovered potential easter eggs or hints about a new setting within the Grand Festival event itself. Images of a city-like area have led to speculation about its role in a future game.
One fan commented on a post featuring these in-game screenshots, suggesting, "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" However, others remain unconvinced, pointing out similarities to existing locations in Splatoon 3.
While there's no official word on Splatoon 4, whispers have circulated for months, suggesting Nintendo's commenced development on a new Switch title in the series. The Grand Festival, being the final major Splatfest, further strengthens fan belief in an imminent sequel. Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced their respective sequels, leading to speculation that Splatoon 3's "Past, Present, or Future" theme might foreshadow a similar concept in Splatoon 4. Until an official announcement, however, fans will have to remain patient.
