A New Official Reveal Trailer
The Silent Hill Transmission, airing March 13, 2025, unveiled fresh details and a new trailer for Silent Hill f. Unlike its predecessors, this installment is set in 1960s Japan. The game's narrative follows Shimizu Hinako, an ordinary teenager whose life is upended when her town is enveloped in a horrifying fog, transforming into a nightmarish landscape. Hinako must navigate this unrecognizable world, solving puzzles, battling strange enemies, and ultimately confronting a terrifying choice that will define her fate. This is a story of a beautiful, yet terrifying decision.
Silent Hill f is situated in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by a real-life location in Kanayama, Gero, Gifu Prefecture. The developers meticulously recreated the town, capturing its intricate alleyways using reference photos, recorded ambient sounds, and historical materials to accurately reflect the 1960s setting.
Finding Beauty in Terror
According to series producer Motoi Okamoto, the core concept behind Silent Hill f is to "find the beauty in terror." While retaining the series' signature psychological horror, the team aimed to explore the unique atmosphere of a Japanese setting and its associated themes.
Okamoto explains, "Japanese horror often presents terror within beauty. Extreme beauty can be profoundly unsettling. Players will experience this world through the eyes of a young girl facing a beautiful yet terrifying choice."
A Standalone Silent Hill Experience
Okamoto emphasizes that Silent Hill f is a standalone story, accessible to newcomers. However, longtime fans will find familiar elements and Easter eggs woven throughout. He also notes that fans of Ryukishi07, renowned for his psychological Japanese horror visual novels, will particularly appreciate the game's style.
Ryukishi07, a longtime Silent Hill fan, has played every game in the series. He describes the development as both a return to the series' roots and a new set of challenges, primarily the question of whether they could create a true Silent Hill experience outside of the titular town.
He states, "As creators, I believe we've successfully crafted a Silent Hill game. However, we're eager to see how long-time fans react and whether they agree."
Silent Hill f is now available to wishlist on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A specific release date has yet to be announced. For the latest updates, check out our related article!
