A newly established PlayStation studio in Los Angeles, California, is generating significant excitement within the gaming community. Confirmed through a recent job posting, this 20th addition to PlayStation's first-party lineup is developing a high-profile, original AAA title exclusively for the PS5.
The secrecy surrounding the studio's identity has sparked considerable speculation. Two leading theories posit that the studio may house either a spin-off team from Bungie, stemming from the July 2024 layoffs that saw 155 Bungie employees transition to Sony Interactive Entertainment, or a team led by Jason Blundell.
Blundell, a prominent figure in the Call of Duty: Black Ops franchise, co-founded Deviation Games, a studio working on a PS5 AAA title before its closure in March 2024. Interestingly, many former Deviation Games employees joined PlayStation in May 2024, under Blundell's leadership, fueling speculation that this new studio is the culmination of that effort. The longer gestation period of Blundell's team compared to the Bungie spin-off makes this a strong possibility.
While the exact nature of the game under development remains undisclosed, fans eagerly anticipate news regarding this "groundbreaking" original IP.
