PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse controls, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are arguably better experienced with a gamepad. Reflex-based movement and fast-paced melee combat often lend themselves well to controller input. Similarly, many titles originating on consoles and later ported to PC often feel more natural with a controller.
While most PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain genres are intrinsically linked to controllers. This is especially true for franchises that began on consoles.
Recent Releases and Upcoming Titles Potentially Better with Controllers:
The end of 2024 saw several high-profile releases, many of which are arguably superior with keyboard and mouse. However, some upcoming titles appear well-suited for gamepad use:
- Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port echoing the Monster Hunter formula, suggesting controller compatibility.
- Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently performs better with gamepads, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Given the similar combat system to its predecessor, a controller is likely preferred on PC.
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2: As a PS5 port, a controller-centric experience is anticipated, though keyboard and mouse may also function adequately.
