Oscar Isaac Confirmed for Star Wars Celebration, Fueling Return Rumors

Author : Joseph Apr 26,2025

Star Wars fans are buzzing with excitement as Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac is set to make an official appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025. This event, taking place in Tokyo from April 18 to 20, has sparked rumors about the potential return of his beloved character, Poe Dameron, to the Star Wars universe. The announcement was made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, fueling speculation about what Isaac might reveal during the event.

The precedent was set at Star Wars Celebration 2023 when Rey actress Daisy Ridley announced her involvement in a new film set in the Star Wars universe. This has led fans to wonder if Isaac will follow suit and announce his return to the franchise. The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker," and since then, Isaac's stance on returning to the franchise has evolved. Initially expressing reluctance, stating he would only return if he needed "another house or something" in 2020, he later softened his stance by 2022, telling Variety he was "open to anything."

Isaac has been vocal about his disappointment with Disney for not embracing his idea of a romance between Poe and Finn, played by John Boyega, citing that the "overlords were not ready for that." Boyega, who also expressed negative sentiments about his experience with the Sequel Trilogy, has similarly indicated openness to future roles within the franchise. This has led to speculation about the potential return of all three main characters in the upcoming Rey film, which is set approximately 15 years after the events of "The Rise of Skywalker" and focuses on Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order.

Ridley has expressed her desire for Boyega to join her in the new film, and with Poe completing the main trio of the Sequel Trilogy, his return seems plausible. Fans might get some definitive answers at Star Wars Celebration 2025, but otherwise, they will have to wait patiently to see how the pieces come together.

The wait might be longer than expected, as Disney has repeatedly delayed the release of several announced Star Wars films. The Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, does not yet have a confirmed release date, but the earliest potential slot is December 17, 2027. As anticipation builds, Star Wars enthusiasts are eager to see what the future holds for their favorite characters and the galaxy far, far away.
