NieR: Automata | Beast Hide Acquisition Guide

NieR: Automata offers a diverse arsenal of weapons, upgradeable multiple times to extend their usefulness throughout the game. Weapon upgrades require specific resources, including Beast Hides, a material not readily obtained. This guide details efficient farming strategies.

Obtaining Beast Hides

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife, such as moose and boar, found in specific game areas. These animals are identifiable on the mini-map by their white icons (machines are black). They tend to avoid players and robots. There's no dedicated farming spot; their spawns are less frequent than machines.

Wildlife Locations and Behavior

Moose and boar appear in the ruined city and forest zones. Their reaction to player attacks depends on the level difference: lower-level animals flee, while higher-level ones may attack or become aggressive upon approach. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging.

Utilizing Animal Bait

Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying encounters.

Respawn Mechanics

Wildlife respawn follows similar rules to machines:

  • Fast traveling resets enemy and wildlife spawns.
  • Traveling a significant distance triggers respawns in previously visited areas.
  • Story progression can also reset nearby spawns.

Farming Strategies

There's no optimal Beast Hide farming method. The most efficient approach involves eliminating all encountered wildlife while exploring the forest and city ruins. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, so accumulating sufficient quantities shouldn't be overly difficult, especially if you avoid upgrading more weapons than you can equip simultaneously.
