Let's be honest: Mortal Kombat 1's popularity is waning. Season 3 content appears cancelled due to disappointing sales, and the recently released Pro Kompetition trailer, showcasing the game's esports circuit, is underwhelming at best.

The 2025 Pro Kompetition boasts a total prize pool of $255,000. Even by fighting game community (FGC) standards, this is a meager sum in 2025. Many top players have previously voiced concerns about insufficient prize money, making international travel for potentially small payouts financially unsustainable.

This year's competitive scene will likely see a geographical split: North American and European players competing primarily within their respective regions, converging only at EVO 2025, considered the premier fighting game tournament.

While excitement and hype are being generated, the reality behind the scenes is less optimistic. Despite the enthusiastic marketing and the tantalizing in-game glimpse of the T-1000, the overall picture is concerning.
