John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative duo behind the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, have been tapped to write the screenplay for Lionsgate's upcoming Monopoly movie. This announcement follows previous reports of various attempts to bring the classic board game to the big screen, dating back to 2007. Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment will produce the film.
Daley and Goldstein's involvement promises a fresh approach, building on their success with Honor Among Thieves and their own original film, Mayday. Their writing credits also include The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility in crafting engaging narratives within established franchises.
Previous attempts at a Monopoly movie, including those involving Ridley Scott, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, Andrew Niccol, and Kevin Hart and Tim Story, ultimately failed to materialize. However, Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro has seemingly revitalized the project, paving the way for this new iteration. The hope is that this version will finally succeed in bringing the world of Monopoly to life on the silver screen.
