Marvel Snap's Second Anniversary Brings Doctor Doom 2099: Top Deck Strategies
Marvel Snap continues its second-year run with another alternate character: Doctor Doom 2099. This guide explores optimal deck builds featuring this powerful new addition.
Understanding Doctor Doom 2099
Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: After each turn where you play exactly one card, a DoomBot 2099 is added to a random location. These DoomBot 2099s (also 4-cost, 2-power) provide an ongoing +1 power buff to other DoomBots and Doctor Doom. This synergy extends to regular Doctor Doom cards as well.
Optimally, Doom 2099 functions as a 17-power card (or more with early play or Magik). However, the random placement of DoomBots presents a risk, and Enchantress completely negates their power boost.
Top Doctor Doom 2099 Decks
The one-card-per-turn requirement makes this card a potential game-changer, reviving Spectrum Ongoing decks. Here's a sample:
-
Deck 1 (Spectrum Focus): Ant-Man, Goose, Psylocke, Captain America, Cosmo, Electro, Doom 2099, Wong, Klaw, Doctor Doom, Spectrum, Onslaught. This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is Series 5) offers flexibility. Early Doom 2099 plays (aided by Psylocke or Electro) maximize power spread. If Doom 2099 isn't played early, the deck adapts to a Doctor Doom-centric strategy leveraging Spectrum's buffs. Cosmo protects against Enchantress.
-
Deck 2 (Patriot Style): Ant-Man, Zabu, Dazzler, Mister Sinister, Patriot, Brood, Doom 2099, Super Skrull, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum. Another cost-effective deck (only Doom 2099 is Series 5). This follows a Patriot strategy, using early-game cards like Mister Sinister and Brood before deploying Doom 2099, followed by Blue Marvel and Doctor Doom or Spectrum. Zabu discounts 4-cost cards for early plays if Patriot fails. This deck allows strategic skipping of DoomBot spawns to play stronger cards on the final turn, but it's highly vulnerable to Enchantress. Super Skrull counters other Doom 2099 decks.
Is Doom 2099 Worth the Investment?
While the Spotlight Cache's accompanying cards (Daken and Miek) are underwhelming, Doom 2099's power and deck-building versatility make him a worthwhile acquisition. Use Collector's Tokens if possible, but don't hesitate to obtain him. He's projected to be a meta-defining card unless nerfed.
