Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a major hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase, the developer, has consistently stated it won't launch on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
Recently, at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. He revealed that a Switch 2 release is a strong possibility. Wu explained: "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. If we can achieve great performance on the Switch 2, we're definitely open to it. The original Switch couldn't deliver the optimal gameplay experience; if the Switch 2 can, we'll consider it."
Last month marked the official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2. While specifics remain scarce, it's anticipated to be a more powerful console with enhanced capabilities. Interestingly, reports suggest a potential mouse-like control scheme, which could significantly improve the shooter experience, making it feel more akin to PC gameplay. The precise implementation remains to be seen.
The Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a confirmed release date, though a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received positive critical reception. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating that while it draws inspiration from existing hero shooters, it's "well-positioned to become the genre's leading title." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
