Get ready for a fiery return to Tarkir! The upcoming Magic: The Gathering set, Tarkir: Dragonstorm, ignites on April 11th, and pre-orders are open now. This highly anticipated release brings back the iconic clans and powerful dragons of Tarkir, introducing exciting new mechanics and cards sure to shake up the meta. As a proud owner of a Scion of the Ur-Dragon Commander deck, I’m already strategizing my upgrades—and my friends are bracing for impact.
What to Expect From Tarkir: Dragonstorm
For newcomers, Tarkir is a plane dominated by five warring clans and ancient dragons. Each clan—Abzan Houses (White, Black, Green), Jeskai Way (Blue, Red, White), Mardu Horde (Red, White, Black), Sultai Brood (Black, Green, Blue), and Temur Frontier (Green, Blue, Red)—boasts a unique playstyle led by a powerful Khan. Wizards of the Coast has started revealing the clans' new mechanics and the formidable dragons poised to redefine the battlefield.

Each clan wields unique mechanics: Jeskai’s Flurry rewards playing a second spell; Sultai’s Renew exiles cards to grant counters; Mardu’s Mobilize creates temporary creatures; Temur’s Harmonize lets you replay cards from the graveyard; and Abzan’s Endure triggers on non-token creature death.
But the dragons are getting some new tricks too! Omen lets you cast a card as a creature or spell, shuffling it back into your deck if cast as a spell. Behold triggers when you reveal or control a dragon. These mechanics aren't clan-specific, adding exciting deck-building possibilities.

The spotlight, however, is undeniably on the dragons. Betor, Kin to All (2WBG), triggers powerful effects based on your creatures' total toughness, potentially drawing cards, untapping creatures, or even dealing significant life loss. Ugin, Eye of the Storms (7), a colorless planeswalker, exiles permanents when you cast colorless spells and boasts a game-changing ultimate ability.

Tarkir: Dragonstorm is shaping up to be a must-have set. With the return of powerful dragons and exciting new mechanics, April 11th can’t come soon enough!
