Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Is Proof 'You Don't Need AI to Steal My Soul,' Harrison Ford Says

Harrison Ford, the iconic actor behind the legendary character Indiana Jones, has expressed his approval of Troy Baker's portrayal of Indy in the video game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford humorously remarked, "You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent. He did a brilliant job, and it didn’t take AI to do it." This statement underscores Ford's confidence in Baker's performance and his skepticism towards the use of AI in creative roles.

"Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," released in December, is considered an authentic addition to the beloved series, though not necessarily part of the official canon. This game's positive reception contrasts sharply with the lukewarm response to the latest film in the franchise, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," which hit theaters in 2023. The success of the game might encourage the franchise's creators to explore new avenues rather than relying on Ford reprising his role.

Ford, known for his roles in "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," and upcoming projects in the Marvel universe, joins a growing list of creatives voicing concerns over AI in media. Tim Burton has labeled AI-generated art as "very disturbing," while Nicolas Cage has described it as a "dead end." The issue extends to voice acting as well, with notable actors like Ned Luke from "Grand Theft Auto 5" and Doug Cockle from "The Witcher" criticizing AI chatbots that mimic their voices. Cockle warned that such technology is "inevitable" but "dangerous," echoing Luke's sentiment that it effectively deprives voice actors of their income.
