Nintendo Switch 2: Genki Reveals Key Features and Design Details
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, recently unveiled a 3D-printed Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key design features and confirming several circulating rumors. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions and includes several notable upgrades.
The mockup showcased a larger console, approaching the size of Valve's Steam Deck. Key features included magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and a mysterious "C" button of unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining that a release button on each Joy-Con disengages the magnetic connection. Despite the change from sliding rails, the Joy-Con remain securely attached during gameplay.
Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Con's integration of optical sensors. These sensors, located within the mounting channel, suggest potential functionality as mouse controls via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to corroborate this feature.
While the Switch 2's increased size accommodates the current Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. Genki remains uncertain about the purpose of the additional USB-C port and the enigmatic "C" button.
