Should You Free Ilora in Avowed?

Author : Patrick Mar 05,2025

In Avowed, you'll face a crucial decision: free Ilora, a suspicious prisoner, or leave her fate sealed. This choice significantly impacts your journey, particularly in Fort Northreach and a later side quest. This guide explores the ramifications of each decision.

Should You Free Ilora?

Freeing Ilora is strongly recommended. This path simplifies Fort Northreach and unlocks a smoother path through a later side quest, "Escape Plan." While role-playing allows for diverse character choices, freeing Ilora offers tangible gameplay advantages.

Freeing Ilora: The Benefits

Freeing Ilora provides significant combat assistance. Early in Avowed, your character is relatively weak. Ilora's aid proves invaluable against Fort Northreach's enemies, including Steadman Ralke, the area boss. Beyond the immediate combat advantage, saving Ilora simplifies "Escape Plan," a later side quest (details omitted to avoid spoilers).

How to Free Ilora

Ilora reveals the key to her cell is located in the Warden's Room. Access this room by proceeding to the hallway's end, climbing crates, jumping to the adjacent platform, and entering the overhead passage. Break through the boards on your right to descend into the Warden's Room. The key is near the door. Note: Regardless of your choice regarding Ilora, use the key to unlock the adjacent cell and obtain the Deerskin Gloves.

Leaving Ilora: The Consequences

Choosing not to free Ilora drastically increases the difficulty of Fort Northreach. "Escape Plan" also becomes significantly more challenging. Furthermore, Ilora won't remain imprisoned; you'll be forced to fight her, further complicating your escape. However, this path allows you to loot Ilora's corpse, providing ill-gotten gains for your morally questionable actions.

In conclusion, freeing Ilora offers significant gameplay advantages, making it the more strategic choice. Avowed is available now.
