EA Opens Up Source Code for Four Command & Conquer Titles

Electronic Arts has taken a momentous step by open-sourcing the code for four legendary Command & Conquer games. Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Command & Conquer: Renegade, and Command & Conquer: Generals are now freely available on GitHub under an open license. This generous move empowers fans and developers to delve into, modify, and revitalize these cherished classics.

Complementing this release, EA has integrated Steam Workshop support into newer Command & Conquer titles utilizing the SAGE engine (including Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3). This addition streamlines the creation and sharing of custom content, fostering a thriving community-driven ecosystem.

Although EA's current focus may not be on active Command & Conquer development, the franchise retains immense popularity amongst its dedicated fanbase. By providing open source code and improving modding tools, EA is enabling passionate players to reignite the series. This initiative has the potential to attract a new generation of players and contributors, ensuring the enduring legacy of Command & Conquer.
