Like a Dragon Direct Date Announced

Yakuza fans eagerly awaiting the February release of Like a Dragon: Pirate of the Caribbean in Hawaii can catch a special Like a Dragon Direct later this week. Unlike recent mainline Like a Dragon RPGs, this installment features the fluid, real-time combat of the original Kiryu saga, starring Goro Majima. The game follows Majima's adventures in and around Hawaii after the events of last year's Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developers behind Like a Dragon, made a splash at the 2024 Game Awards with reveals of Virtua Fighter 6 and a new IP, codenamed Project Century. While RGG Studio's involvement with Virtua Fighter 6 surprised many, Project Century—a Yakuza-esque action brawler set in 1915 Japan—generated even more buzz. Speculation abounds regarding its connection to the Yakuza/Like a Dragon universe, with some theorizing it could depict the Omi Alliance's origins.

In anticipation of Like a Dragon: Pirate of the Caribbean in Hawaii's February 21st release, RGG Studio announced a dedicated Like a Dragon Direct. Fans can tune into the YouTube or Twitch livestream on Thursday, January 9th at 12 PM Eastern Time. RGG promises new gameplay features without significant story spoilers.

RGG Studio has already showcased many of Like a Dragon: Pirate of the Caribbean in Hawaii's combat features and minigames. The upcoming stream will likely reveal further details. While the announcement focuses solely on Like a Dragon: Pirate of the Caribbean in Hawaii, fans speculate about potential teases of other projects, such as the rumored Yakuza 3 Kiwami remake or even another glimpse at Project Century. However, given the event's title, Project Century's inclusion seems less likely, especially considering its recent reveal.

Like a Dragon: Pirate of the Caribbean in Hawaii sets sail on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on February 21st, promising a unique experience amidst February's other big releases, including Monster Hunter Wilds, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Obsidian Entertainment's Avowed. What RGG Studio has in store remains a mystery, but fans won't have long to wait.
