Deino Unveiled: Evolution and Capture Guide for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Author : Lucy Feb 20,2025

This guide details how to obtain and utilize the powerful Dark/Dragon-type Pokémon, Hydreigon, in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hydreigon, a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, boasts impressive stats and is a valuable addition to any team. However, its evolutionary line (Deino and Zweilous) is exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet.

Acquiring Deino:

Deino and its evolution, Zweilous, are found in several locations within Pokémon Scarlet: Alfornada Cavern, Dalizapa Passage, Glaseado Mountain, Area Zero, and North Province (Area Two). Alfornada Cavern and Dalizapa Passage require Koraidon's high jump ability. Alternatively, Deino can be obtained from 3-star Tera Raids (post-3 gym badges), offering a chance for a Hidden Ability. Zweilous appears in 4-star Tera Raids. Hydreigon itself can be found in 5/6-star Tera Raids.

Obtaining Deino in Pokémon Violet:

Since Deino is Scarlet-exclusive, players of Pokémon Violet must obtain it through trading or Pokémon HOME. Trading requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership and utilizes the Union Circle. Pokémon HOME allows transfers from Pokémon Sword/Shield, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon Scarlet. The process involves moving Deino to the Basic Box in HOME, then transferring it to a PC Box in Pokémon Violet.

Evolving Deino:

Deino evolves into Zweilous at level 50, and Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon at level 64. Utilize auto-battling or Exp. Candies (especially L and XL) to expedite the leveling process.

Hydreigon's Strengths and Weaknesses:

Hydreigon's base stat total is 600, with high Special Attack and Attack, and good Speed. A Timid or Jolly Nature is recommended.

  • Type Effectiveness:
    • Super Effective Against: Dragon, Ghost, Psychic
    • Weaknesses: Fairy (4x), Fighting, Bug, Dragon, Ice
    • Resistances: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Ghost, Dark
    • Immunities: Ground, Psychic

Hydreigon's 4x weakness to Fairy-type moves can be mitigated through Terastallizing. Its movepool allows for both physical and special attacking strategies. Flash Cannon (via TM) is a crucial Steel-type move to counter its Fairy weakness. Other recommended moves include Nasty Plot, Dragon Pulse (or Draco Meteor), and Dark Pulse.

Stat Base Stat
HP 92
Attack 105
Sp. Atk 125
Defense 90
Sp. Def 90
Speed 98
Total 600

Hydreigon remains a potent Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, despite its vulnerability to Fairy-type attacks. Careful team building and strategic move selection will maximize its potential.
