Skateboarding Returns: Console Playtesting for the Highly Anticipated "skate." Begins!
Exciting news for console gamers! The long-awaited "skate." title, a fresh entry in the beloved Skate franchise, is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been enjoying test sessions since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for Xbox and PlayStation users to experience a new Skate game in over a decade.
The Skate franchise, last seen with Skate 3 in 2010, enjoyed dedicated fan support despite a lengthy hiatus. The persistent demand, fueled by the #Skate4 hashtag, finally led EA to establish a dedicated development team. The announcement of early access in 2025 followed, and this console playtest represents significant progress toward that goal.
Via the official "skate." Twitter account, Xbox and PlayStation players can now participate in the playtest via the "skate." Insider program (registration required). A recent video featuring developers confirmed more Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the initially announced Fall 2024 playtest timeframe, though specific gameplay details, such as the updated replay editor, remain under wraps.
EA has confirmed "skate." as a free-to-play, live-service game set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam. Inspired by San Vanelona, Port Carverton, and real-world locations, San Vansterdam is still under development. While map leaks surfaced in 2023, significant changes are likely. Fans can either join the playtest or patiently await the game's wider release.
Other Skate Games to Enjoy in the Interim
While early access is targeted for 2025, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several skateboarding games are available to keep fans entertained until "skate." officially launches.
