Get ready for a revolutionary experience! Sid Meier’s Civilization VII (Civ VII) will make its VR debut exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets. Announced on February 8th, 2025, at the Civ World Summit, this marks the franchise's first foray into virtual and mixed reality gaming.
Dennis Shirk, Civ VII Executive Franchise Producer, expressed his enthusiasm in a 2K Games blog post: "We're just days away now from the full launch of Civilization VII and look forward to ushering in a new era of strategy excellence for our fans!

Meta's Director of Games, Chris Pruett, shared his excitement, stating: "With the recent release of Meta Quest 3S and our strongest games and entertainment portfolio yet, it’s an awesome time for mixed reality. Civilization VII - VR is further evidence of that momentum: it’s a genuine Civ experience made specifically for deep strategy fans.

Note: While Civ VII is launching on PlayStation consoles, a PSVR2 release is not currently planned.
Immersive Gameplay: A Board Game Brought to Life
Civ VII VR places you at a Command Table, offering a unique perspective on your empire. Zoom out for a strategic overview or lean in for a detailed look at your cities and units—it's like experiencing a tabletop game in stunning VR.Enjoy seamless transitions between immersive virtual reality and mixed reality modes. 2K Games describes the experience: "In virtual reality, players are transported to an ornate museum as they look out onto a vista personalized to their leader; in mixed reality, the Command Table adapts to its placement in a player's physical space."
Engage in single-player campaigns, team up with friends in co-op, or challenge others in competitive multiplayer. Up to four players can join a game using Meta Quest 3 or 3S headsets. Mix and match human and AI opponents for a customized challenge. See your fellow players (and rivals!) as their chosen world leaders within the VR/MR environment. Online multiplayer requires a 2K account and a Meta account.
Responding to Player Feedback: UI Improvements and More
Firaxis Games is actively addressing player feedback from Civ VII's early access period. Their official Twitter (X) account announced ongoing efforts to improve the game based on community input. Early access began February 6th, 2025, for Deluxe and Founder’s Edition owners, and initial Steam reviews highlighted UI concerns.
Firaxis has outlined their update priorities, focusing on UI improvements for better navigation and map readability. They're also planning to add community-requested features like multiplayer teams and more diverse map types. A quality-of-life update in March will address UI adjustments, AI balancing, diplomacy refinements, and bug fixes.
Civilization VII VR is slated for release in Spring 2025 on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, with a specific date yet to be announced. The standard Civilization VII launches worldwide on February 11th, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
