Bandai Namco has announced the closure of Blue Protocol's Japanese servers and the cancellation of its global release, planned in partnership with Amazon Games. This decision, impacting the game's future worldwide, is detailed below.
Blue Protocol: Global Launch Cancelled, Japanese Servers Shutting Down
Player Compensation and Final Updates
Bandai Namco's announcement confirms Blue Protocol's Japanese servers will cease operation on January 18, 2025. Consequently, the international launch, a collaboration with Amazon Games, is also cancelled. The company cited an inability to consistently deliver a satisfying player experience as the reason behind this decision.
In an official statement, Bandai Namco expressed regret over the cancellation, stating their inability to maintain a service meeting player expectations. They also acknowledged their disappointment in halting global development with Amazon Games.
Until the game's closure, Bandai Namco pledges continued support through updates and new content. However, Rose Orbs will no longer be sold or refunded. As compensation, players will receive 5,000 Rose Orbs monthly (starting September 2024) and 250 daily. Furthermore, the Season 9 pass (and subsequent season passes) will be free, and the final update, Chapter 7, is slated for December 18, 2024.
Initially launched in Japan in June 2023, Blue Protocol attracted over 200,000 concurrent players. However, the game's launch was marred by server issues, requiring emergency maintenance. Subsequently, player numbers dwindled, and dissatisfaction grew.
Despite a promising debut, Blue Protocol failed to retain its player base and meet financial projections. Bandai Namco's March 31, 2024 financial report indicated the game's underperformance, directly influencing the decision to end service.
