BAFTA Unveils 2025 Games Awards Longlist

58 Games Vie for Awards

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced its longlist for the 2025 BAFTA Games Awards. A remarkable 58 games, spanning diverse genres, are in contention across 17 categories. This impressive selection was chosen from 247 titles submitted, all released between November 25, 2023, and November 15, 2024.

The final nominations will be revealed on March 4, 2025, with the awards ceremony itself taking place on April 8, 2025.

Best Game Contenders:

Ten games are vying for the coveted Best Game award:

  • ANIMAL WELL
  • Astro Bot
  • Balatro
  • Black Myth: Wukong
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  • Helldivers 2
  • The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
  • Metaphor: ReFantazio
  • Thank Goodness You’re Here!
  • Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Following Baldur’s Gate 3's six-award sweep at the 2024 BAFTAs (from ten nominations), this year's contenders are poised for a thrilling competition.

Other Categories:

While not competing for Best Game, many titles are still in the running across 16 other categories: Animation, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, British Game, Debut Game, Evolving Game, Family, Game Beyond Entertainment, Game Design, Multiplayer, Music, Narrative, New Intellectual Property, Technical Achievement, Performer in a Leading Role, and Performer in a Supporting Role.

Notable Exclusions from Best Game:

Several high-profile releases are absent from the Best Game category. This is due to BAFTA's eligibility rules, which exclude remasters, remakes, and DLC released outside the eligibility period. While Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Silent Hill 2 are included in the overall longlist (competing in categories like Music, Narrative, and Technical Achievement), Elden Ring's expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, is notably absent. The reasons for this specific exclusion are unclear, but Shadow of the Erdtree is expected to feature in other year-end awards.

BAFTA's complete longlist is available on their official website.
