How to Beat Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
When the fight begins, Dularn will surround himself with a spherical barrier, rendering him invulnerable to attacks. Your focus should be on surviving his onslaught until the barrier dissipates. Once it's down, you'll have a window to land several hits on Dularn. His health varies with the chosen difficulty level, and while you can backtrack if you're struggling, remember that defeating Dularn is mandatory to progress.
It's crucial to avoid Dularn while his barrier is active, as contact with him will cause damage. Attempting to attack him during this phase is futile and will only lead to your defeat.
Dularn's Sword Attacks
Dularn employs multiple swords to attack, each with distinct patterns that you need to recognize and evade:
- Swords Above: Dularn summons swords that hover above him before striking down at the player.
- X-Shaped Swords: He forms an X with the swords, which then home in on the player.
- Straight Line Thrust: A line of swords is thrust directly at the player.
Dealing with homing projectiles can be tricky, but a simple strategy is to run in wide circles around Dularn when his barrier is up. This helps you dodge the initial two sword strikes. However, be prepared to jump to avoid any swords that might still come your way. For the straight line of swords, timing your jump just before they reach you is key to avoiding damage.
Once Dularn's barrier falls, he becomes vulnerable to your sword attacks. After taking damage, he'll teleport away, so keep your distance when he reappears to avoid his reforming barrier.
Dularn's Wave Blasts
Dularn can unleash two types of wave attacks:
Fireballs
You can navigate through these fireballs by moving between them or jumping over them. Combining movement with jumping ensures you remain unscathed.
Arching Slash
This large blue slash leaves no gaps, so jumping over it is your only option. These wave attacks often signal when Dularn is about to become vulnerable, so use them as a cue to rush in and deal damage.
The key to mastering this fight is understanding Dularn's attack patterns. There's no need to grind levels; focus on learning his moves.
