WoW Adds NPC in 11.1 Honoring Deceased Players

World of Warcraft Patch 11.1: A Tribute to Mats Steen and New Undermine Content

World of Warcraft's upcoming Patch 11.1 is shaping up to be a significant update, introducing new content in Undermine and a touching tribute to the late Mats Steen. Dataminers have uncovered an NPC, Lord Ibelin Redmoore, bearing a striking resemblance to Steen's iconic World of Warcraft avatar. This addition serves as a heartfelt memorial to the player featured in the documentary, The Remarkable Life of Ibelin.

The patch, expected around February 25th, will expand upon the War Within storyline with new adventures in the Goblin city of Undermine. However, Lord Ibelin Redmoore, designated a "Private Investigator," stands as a separate addition, honoring Steen's renowned roleplaying career as a detective in Stormwind.

Lord Ibelin Redmoore: A Fitting Homage

Mats Steen, through his character Ibelin, was a prominent roleplayer and member of the Starlight guild. His in-game detective persona fostered numerous interactions with fellow players. While the exact implementation of this tribute remains unknown, speculation suggests Ibelin may appear in Stormwind taverns or follow a route mirroring Steen's real-life in-game travels. The possibility of an appearance on the Public Test Realm (PTR) before the official release adds to the anticipation.

This isn't the first time World of Warcraft has honored Steen. A replica of his grave exists in Elwynn Forest, and a Reven fox pet and backpack were sold in a charity bundle benefiting CureDuchenne. These tributes underscore the profound impact Steen's story had on the World of Warcraft community. Patch 11.1 promises to further cement this legacy.
