WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC

Author : Savannah Apr 12,2025

A planned paid story expansion for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy has been canceled, as reported by Bloomberg. Warner Bros. had intended to release this downloadable content (DLC) alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game sometime this year. However, the project was abruptly halted this week. According to Bloomberg's sources, Warner Bros. decided to cancel the DLC due to concerns that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered." Warner Bros. did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment on the matter.

This cancellation comes amidst broader restructuring efforts within Warner Bros.' gaming division, which has been facing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made significant moves by canceling its planned Wonder Woman game and shutting down the studio responsible for its development, Monolith Productions. Additionally, Warner Bros. closed WB San Diego and the studio behind MultiVersus, Player First Games. The company also conducted layoffs at Rocksteady last September.

Despite the recent cancellation, Warner Bros. has emphasized the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts its focus toward fewer but more significant franchises. The success of the original game is undeniable, having sold over 30 million copies.
