Square Enix Beloved RPG Franchise Graces Nintendo Switch

Triangle Strategy Returns to Nintendo Switch eShop

RPG enthusiasts can celebrate! Triangle Strategy, the acclaimed Square Enix title, is back on the Nintendo Switch eShop after a temporary removal. This follows a recent transfer of publishing rights from Nintendo to Square Enix, a move that may explain the brief delisting.

Fans can now readily purchase and download the game from the online store. Triangle Strategy, lauded for its revival of classic tactical RPG gameplay, garnered significant attention upon its initial release. Its strategic combat, reminiscent of Fire Emblem, involves careful unit placement to maximize damage.

Square Enix's announcement on Twitter confirmed the game's return after a four-day absence. While the reason for the initial delisting remains officially unstated, the recent shift in publishing rights is a likely contributing factor. This isn't the first time a Square Enix game has experienced a short-lived removal from the eShop; Octopath Traveler faced a similar situation last year, though its absence lasted considerably longer.

The swift return of Triangle Strategy is welcome news for Nintendo Switch players. This reinforces the strong ongoing partnership between Square Enix and Nintendo, evidenced by past collaborations such as the Nintendo Switch exclusive release of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series (before its wider release on other platforms).

This collaboration reflects a long history between the two companies. Square Enix’s tradition of releasing console exclusives stretches back to the original Final Fantasy on the NES, a practice that continues today with titles like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (currently PlayStation 5 exclusive) and the original Nintendo Switch exclusive release of Dragon Quest XI.
