Ready or Not, while sounding deceptively innocent, is a hardcore SWAT-themed FPS that's anything but child's play. However, even seasoned tactical operators can encounter frustrating technical hiccups. This guide tackles the dreaded "Serialization Error Action Needed" in Ready or Not.

The "Serialization Error Action Needed" error in Ready or Not, often accompanied by "Corrupt data found, please verify your installation," points to an Unreal Engine issue. Let's explore the solutions:

1. Verify Your Game Files

The game itself suggests the first step: verifying your installation. Ensure Steam isn't in offline mode, then:

  1. Open your Steam Library and locate Ready or Not.
  2. Right-click, select "Properties," then "Local Files."
  3. Click "Verify Integrity of Game Files."

Steam will scan for missing or corrupted files and automatically redownload them. Try launching Ready or Not again. If successful, you're all set. If not, proceed to the next step.

2. Remove Your Mods

Outdated or incompatible mods, especially those not updated for Unreal Engine 5, are a common culprit. To remove mods:

  1. Open your Steam Library and find Ready or Not.
  2. Left-click "Manage," then "Browse Local Files."
  3. Navigate to ReadyOrNot\Content\Paks.
  4. Delete the mod.io folder.

This will resolve the error, but you'll lose your mods temporarily. See step 3 for reinstalling them.

3. Reinstall Mods (One by One)

Now, carefully reinstall your mods individually. Visit Nexus Mods, Mod.io, or your preferred modding site. Before reinstalling any mod, check its last update date. Mods updated after July 2024 (when Ready or Not transitioned to UE5) have a higher chance of compatibility.

Install one mod, test the game. Repeat this process for each mod. If the error returns, the last installed mod is the likely cause; unfortunately, you may need to skip it if it hasn't been updated for UE5.

4. Last Resort: Reinstall the Game

If all else fails, a clean reinstall of Ready or Not might be necessary. This is less common, but it rules out any deeper system issues.

Remember to check for hard drive corruption as a very rare possibility, but outdated mods are the most frequent cause of this error.

Ready or Not is available now on PC.
