Rocksteady begins search for Game Director for its next Batman game

Rocksteady Studios is preparing for its next major project, and the search for a Game Director has officially begun. On February 17, Warner Bros. Discovery posted a job listing for this pivotal role. The job description outlines that the successful candidate will be responsible for crafting a "high-quality game design," which includes core gameplay mechanics, player progression, combat systems, and mission design. The ideal candidate should possess experience in various genres, such as third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee combat games. This has led to speculation that Rocksteady may be returning to the beloved Batman universe, the franchise that initially brought them fame.

The Batman: Arkham series, known for its focus on melee combat and open-world exploration, aligns well with the job requirements, unlike their most recent release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which emphasized gunplay over hand-to-hand combat. Given that Rocksteady is still in the early stages of hiring, it's likely that the new game is in its conceptual phase. Industry insider Jason Schreier has indicated that if Rocksteady proceeds with a new single-player Batman game, fans should not expect it to be released for several years.

Rocksteady's latest game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, was released on February 2, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. It has garnered mixed reviews, with critics giving it a score of 63 out of 100 and players rating it at 4.2 out of 10 on Metacritic.

Previous reports have hinted that Rocksteady might revisit the Batman franchise, with rumors suggesting a project inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series.
