Respawn Cancels Unannounced Multiplayer Shooter Set in the Titanfall Universe

A former employee of the studio revealed on her LinkedIn profile that the development of a new game in the Titanfall series has been abruptly halted this week. The project, which had been in the works for several years, was stopped without any clear explanation provided to the team. Last year, industry insider Jeff Grubb noted that this game was not a mainline entry, ruling out the possibility of it being Titanfall 3. To bring this project to life, Respawn Entertainment established an "experimental team" specifically dedicated to this endeavor, drawing in experts with a background in multiplayer shooter development.

This isn't the first time Respawn has had to cancel a project within the Titanfall universe. Just last year, the studio discontinued an arcade shooter known internally as Titanfall Legends. The Titanfall series, celebrated for its thrilling mix of action and mech piloting, allows players to engage in combat either as agile pilots or as formidable Titans. Since its debut in 2014, the franchise has captivated gamers with its innovative gameplay, featuring parkour and intense team battles.

Currently, Respawn's attention has shifted towards other high-profile projects. They are actively working on the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series and are collaborating with Bit Reactor on a new strategy game set within the Star Wars universe. These developments indicate a strategic pivot for the studio, focusing on expanding their reach within the Star Wars franchise.
