Ratatan, the highly anticipated spiritual successor to Patapon, has unveiled its official gameplay trailer. This exciting reveal comes with insights into new features and mechanics, as well as details about an upcoming closed beta test.

The newly released Ratatan gameplay trailer offers fans a captivating glimpse into the game's mechanics, highlighted by an intense battle against a giant boss crab. This trailer was showcased during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, presented by the game's developer, Ratatan Works.

The trailer emphasizes Ratatan’s unique blend of rhythm roguelike action, seamlessly integrating rhythm-based gameplay with side-scrolling action. A standout feature is the online co-op mode, which supports up to four players. Additionally, the game will allow players to control up to 100 characters in sprawling melee battles.

Ratatan is being developed by Hiroyuki Kotani, the creator of Patapon, in collaboration with Kemmei Adachi, the original Patapon musician. The game's Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, has successfully met its console launch stretch goal, ensuring a release on various gaming consoles.

Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025

Ratatan Gameplay Trailer Reveals 4 Person Online Co-Op

According to a recent update on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan is gearing up for a closed beta test starting February 27, 2025. Kazuto Sakajiri, the producer of Ratatan, shared details on the game's recent achievements and upcoming events.

Sakajiri announced that Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. However, the game will not participate in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team is focusing on perfecting the closed beta. They aim to present an enhanced demo version during the Steam Next festival in June.

In the closed beta, players can expect to play through Stage 1 initially, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively over the test period, which will span approximately one month. Sakajiri also noted that details regarding code distribution, start dates, and times will be communicated through Discord and X once finalized.

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, anticipation continues to build for this innovative rhythm-action game.
