The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be part of its competitive circuit at this time. Dive into the details to understand more about the future of Pokémon TCG Pocket in the competitive scene and the potential reasons behind this decision.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
Currently, there are no plans to integrate Pokémon TCG Pocket into the Pokémon competitive circuit. Chris Brown, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, shared in a VGC interview on February 25, 2025, that while they continuously evaluate different titles for inclusion, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't on the immediate agenda.
In a light-hearted moment, Brown referenced the April Fool's parody trailer for the "Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament," saying, "Pokemon Sleep is out there too." He quickly added, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Too Early And Unbalanced
While no official reasons have been given for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having released only two sets in its first four months.
Although the app includes competitive features from the start, players have voiced concerns about ongoing balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket, being a simplified and more beginner-friendly version of the original Pokémon card game, seems to prioritize accessibility over a competitive edge.
Nevertheless, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to offer a variety of events, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
