Konami Unveils Mobile Game: Suikoden STAR LEAP

Get ready, Suikoden fans! Konami, in collaboration with MYTHRIL, has just unveiled Suikoden STAR LEAP, a brand new mobile RPG set to launch on Android and iOS. This exciting title will be free to play, though no specific release date has been announced yet. Expect it to hit the app stores later this year.

For those unfamiliar, Suikoden is a legendary RPG series that first captivated gamers back in 1995. Developed and published by Konami, with Yoshitaka Murayama at the helm, the series draws inspiration from the classic Chinese novel, Water Margin. Known as Suikoden in Japan, the saga is renowned for its intricate tales of political intrigue, mystical True Runes, and the iconic 108 Stars of Destiny. Over the years, the franchise has seen 11 entries, including spin-offs, with the most recent release dating back to 2012. Now, instead of a direct sequel or a full revival, Konami is steering the series into the mobile realm with Suikoden STAR LEAP.

What’s in Store?

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh lineup of characters while maintaining the series' hallmark of assembling 108 heroes. The game retains the beloved pixel art style that fans associate with the classic Suikoden experience. You can catch a glimpse of this in the teaser trailer below.

The narrative centers around the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that have shaped the world. The protagonist, Hou, the son of a village chief, has just celebrated his first successful hunt when disaster strikes—his village is attacked, setting off a chain of events. Alongside his companions—Hisui, his servant with a mysterious emotional suppression; Shirin, his childhood friend driven by a strong sense of justice; and Shapur, a former general now acting as a butler—Hou embarks on a quest to restore peace.

While the Suikoden community is buzzing with anticipation, some fans are skeptical about this new direction. After years of waiting for a traditional continuation, the announcement of STAR LEAP as a gacha game has stirred mixed feelings. Only time will tell how this new entry will be received once it's fully released. In the meantime, keep an eye on the official website for the latest updates.
