Should You Kill Ygwulf or Let Him Live in Avowed? Answered

In the opening chapters of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy becomes the target of a tragic assassination. After unraveling the mystery of their own murder with the help of Kai and Marius in Paradis, you'll uncover that the assassin is none other than Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels who fiercely oppose Aedyr's presence in the region. As the Emperor's Envoy, you're a prime target for their cause.

Your journey leads you to Ygwulf's underground hideout, where you'll need to navigate through numerous enemies and challenging platforming sections. Make sure to stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear for this encounter. As you explore the dungeon, you may come across documents that shed light on Ygwulf's true intentions and his growing remorse. He initially believed the Gods compelled him to kill the Envoy, but he later realizes his visions were misguided. Even without these documents, Ygwulf will express his regret and willingness to face justice when you confront him at the quest's end.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Choosing to have Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable option. He will face the brutal wrath of Inquisitor Lödwyn, which is implied to be a painful demise. This choice yields fewer rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in combat. If you decide to spare Ygwulf, he will offer you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of gratitude. While these resources are modest, they can still be beneficial. However, sparing Ygwulf does not change his ultimate fate, as he will meet his end later in the story.

Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Given that Ygwulf's fate is sealed regardless of your choice, opting to attack him during the dialogue is the most advantageous decision. This choice leads to a boss fight, providing valuable practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Moreover, defeating Ygwulf grants you the best loot among the three options. Upon his defeat, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique armor set, Blackwing. This armor not only looks impressive but also offers significant stealth advantages, including a +30% Damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% Movement Speed increase when crouching, aiding in sneaking past enemies.

Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Despite encountering Ygwulf early in the game, his fate subtly influences the ending of *Avowed*. After completing the final gameplay section, you'll see art and narration that illustrate how your decisions impact the world of Eora in the Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to unify and bring peace to the Living Lands, Ygwulf's death will always occur, radicalizing the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring they remain a violent resistance to your efforts post-credits.
