Jason Momoa is set to bring the iconic DC character Lobo to life in the upcoming 2026 film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter known for his superhuman strength and immortality, hails from the now-destroyed planet Czarnia. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in "Omega Men #3" back in 1983 and shares the tragic fate of being the last of his kind, similar to Superman.
Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is excited to join the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as Lobo. He has expressed that Lobo is his favorite comic book character, citing aesthetic similarities between himself and the character as a reason for his enthusiasm. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared his anticipation and nervousness about portraying Lobo, emphasizing his dedication to the role and hinting at the character's rugged appearance and cool motorcycle.
While Lobo's appearance in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" will be brief, as the film primarily focuses on Supergirl, Momoa's portrayal promises to be impactful. He mentioned that fans can expect a faithful representation of the character, complete with a rough and gruff demeanor.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, marking the start of filming for the movie. "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, which follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeking revenge for her father's murder with the help of Supergirl.
The cast of the film includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother. "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is set to hit theaters in June 2026, following the release of James Gunn's "Superman" this summer and preceding the DCU's "Clayface" movie in September 2026.
