"Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment Coming to Nintendo Switch 2"

Author : Michael Apr 17,2025

No Nintendo console would be complete without a Zelda title, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is no different, albeit in a surprising format. During today's Nintendo Direct, we discovered that Koei Tecmo is developing a new Hyrule Warriors game titled Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. This game serves as a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom and is slated for release this winter.

PlayHyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment introduces us to another chapter in the Hyrule Warriors series, featuring characters from the ancient history of Tears of the Kingdom. This includes fan-favorite Zelda alongside Rauru, Sonia, and other Secret Stone holders. The narrative unfolds as Zelda, after traveling back in time, collaborates with the last Zonai, Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia, to combat Ganondorf and his forces.

This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which was a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Age of Calamity was particularly notable for its storytelling, which, while connected to Breath of the Wild, took a slightly unexpected turn. It will be fascinating to see if Age of Imprisonment follows suit with its own unique narrative twists. We awarded Age of Calamity a 9/10, praising it as "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish."
