GTA 6 PC Release Hinted To Come At A Later Date

The buzz around Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is palpable, especially regarding its potential release on PC. While no official confirmation has been made yet, recent statements from Take-Two Interactive's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, and Rockstar Games' history with major releases offer promising hints about GTA 6's future on the PC platform.

In a recent interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Zelnick shared insights into Take-Two's strategy for platform releases. He noted that while their upcoming game Civilization 7 will launch simultaneously on console and PC, Rockstar Games typically adopts a staggered release approach. "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms," Zelnick explained.

This pattern was evident with GTA 5, initially released in September 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, followed by a release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally for PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 followed this trajectory, launching on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, and on PC in November 2019.

Although no official word has been given on GTA 6's PC release, Zelnick's comments suggest a strong possibility that it will eventually make its way to PC, following the trend of major titles in the Grand Theft Auto series. Fans, however, had hoped for a simultaneous launch across all platforms.

Zelnick highlighted the increasing significance of the PC market, noting that PC versions can account for up to 40% of a game's total sales. He emphasized, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

Despite declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes the game will not only perform well but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he stated.

Zelnick added, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though specific dates have not been announced. Stay tuned to our Grand Theft Auto 6 page for the latest updates.

During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed enthusiasm for expanding their game lineup to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He noted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and their willingness to support the platform when appropriate. "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release," he remarked.

Zelnick highlighted a shift in Nintendo's audience, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 already announced for the Switch, he added, "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
